Oh my gosh--I just got in from the garden and had noticed the SAME thing! I'll be curious to see what your readers come up with, as I've never seen this before.....and not sure I want to again! :)
I've got the same thing on many of my tomatoes. This year I really have some strange tomato shapes, too. I don't know the answer, but I wonder if fluctuation in watering has something to do with it.
Have to admit that is rather strange for them all to have it.
