  1. Wow, you guys keep a very accurate record of your rainfall and stuff. We keep promising to ourselves that we will set up some rain barrels (we call them water butts over here), as the rainwater is much better for the garden. Our water is so hard that there is always a residue at the bottom of the coffee cup..:-(

  2. We keep rain information, too, but have been gone so much this summer that I'm not sure how accurate it is.

    We also put up a single rain barrel about 2 years ago. This year we added two large (300 gallon) industrial "barrels" that have been repurposed from fabric softener, I believe. (Yes, they were washed out carefully!) It takes less than a 1" rain to fill both of them from our roof surfaces and they've been a big help in keeping at least some of the garden watered this summer. We'll be continuing to finetune our garden water systems in future years, I'm sure.
