Speckled Trout

I have five kinds of lettuce sprouting in the garden.

New this year, romaine: forellenschluss "speckled trout."

The little sprouts already have the speckles.

  1. Nice!!!! That is an interesting name for a lettuce. I like the coloring on it....I wonder how it tastes....hopefully not like its name:)

  3. I'll have to get some speckled trout next year -- looks interesting. I did get three varieties this year that I've never heard of (I still got the black seeded simpson) one of which is named "Nevada" which is both my great grandmother's name and the name of the little town 20 miles east of us! I can't wait to taste it!

  4. Looks yummy! I haven't been out to the veggie patch since going to mom's for the weekend. .making me wonder if our lettuce mix is up yet?! We had 1/2 inch of rain last night. .and plenty of wind. Hope you got some as well. .rain that is, not wind!

  5. Your speckled trout looks beautiful! Isn't this an heirloom variety?
