TeePees And Drumsticks

Just a couple of interesting things in the garden.

The gourds are climbing the teepee trellises.  There are also morning glory vines working their way through the foliage.  Sunflowers are also reaching for the sky in this area.

Just glad to see the gourds actually climbing this summer.

I have several Drumstick Onions or Allium sphaerocephalon blooming.  I like that they bloom later than many other bulbs.  I need to find a nice ground cover to surround their bare stems (maybe the vinca vine will make it to their space).

Otherwise, I just enjoy their sweet little purple heads swaying in the wind.

  1. I like the Allium varieties a lot. They really jump out with color and form! The morning glory vine will cover that trellis. They grow so quickly!

  3. I have something like this allium that comes up as a volunteer and I didn't know what it was. I think this is it. Can't quite see enough of it because of the size of the picture. This one I have is also purple & very little green.

  8. It looks as if your ghords are doing very well. You must have had more rain than we've had over the past few weeks. The blossoms of the Drumstick onions are beautiful.

  9. Those teepees are great! I have the drumstick alliums too but don't much like them here as they are in the shade. Orange daylilies look good with them. I'm surprised we have so many plants in common!

  10. Hi GoSS, Thanks for your help in figuring out there was a problem link in my blog. I love your teepee trellis! I have my drumstick alliums in an area where there are lots of other flowers, and they mingle right in with them. I have some annual, blue blooming salvias, daylilies, and even some taller things, like kiss me over the garden gate and love lies bleeding. Nigella would be a nice flower to put near there, too. All of these are annuals that reseed themselves around. Oh, and marigolds would look good with them, too.
