Champion Photo

Earlier this summer, I shared some 'flowing water' photos I took during a vacation.

I just had to report back that this one earned me the champion ribbon in amateur adult photography at our county fair.  It was rated first for the landscape category.  I was so surprised.  The judge said my lighting was great.  He/she (I have no idea who the judge was) had only one critique.  He/she thought the tree trunks in the corner were distracting.  I kind of like them.  Maybe that was just a personal preference comment.

I put this photo on my computer's desktop.  The memory of how cold the water in that stream was helps when we hit over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

  1. Congratulations! The water looks so refreshing on a day like today. I like the tree trunks, too!

  2. I think the branches add interest....otherwise, it would be rather "plain".
Great job, and congrats on a beautiful photo.

  4. Congratulations! This really is a champion shot. The tree trunks are perfect --- they give you the "thirds" that a photo composition strives for. You have the third with the straight trunks trisecting the upper right. Then you have the third with the boulders on the left. Then you have the focal third of light water and lighter striped rock in the lower right. Perfect.

    Nicely done!

  5. I like the trees too as they add dimension to the photo. The water looks so inviting. I think it is a wonderful shot and it was fantastic that you won.

  6. I like the branches - they help frame the photo and anchor the scene. If I get great lighting on any of my photos, it was only by accident.

  8. Nice job and congrats. Taking those kind of water shots aren't easy. They require patience.....and the memory of cold water:) I think this is the first summer that everyone hates. All year round everyone waits for winter to end and now, everyone wants this time of their lives done:) Cool picture, cool win....and cool thoughts your way:)

  13. Congrats on getting first prize for your moving water picture. I too like the tree trunks. It accents the picture and makes it look more like the wild stream that it is. Those pictures you took on your vacation would make a great calendar or greeting card.

Have a great picture taking day in the garden.

  16. How great for you!! Congrats, it was a superb photo!! Smiling about the difference in opinion about the tree trunks. .I always have to remind the boys after the fair judging. .that it really just boils down to ONE person's opinion!! It doesn't mean that we have to agree :-)
