Carrots and December?

The carrots I planted this fall continue to grow in the garden.  I've left a little batch of them to see how well they'll do as we go through various cold spells.  I put some straw squares around the plants to help the ground from changing too suddenly in temperature.

Our temperatures go up and down.  We're currently in a warm spell again so I decided harvest a few carrots today.  They were so sweet.

Meanwhile, on the patio, the container of snapdragons continues to have blooms.  The top blooms got a little frozen last week, but the plant is still fine.

Looking at warm weather through Christmas then a winter storm may move in.

The Garden Deck

An early Christmas present found its way to our house.  It's "The Garden Deck."
Most of the cards are for different edibles with information like how far apart to plant, days to maturity, how to harvest and other tips.  A few cards have basic information like the plant hardiness zone map and propagation information.  More resources are always helpful.

Hope the gardening Santa finds you too.

Strong Snapdragons

We have thawed out from the big winter storm that crossed the plains Thanksgiving Day through the weekend.  We got glazed by ice, but not coated in it here to do any damage.  The moisture was appreciated, but the slick roads impacted our travel plans for Thanksgiving.  We had a quiet holiday at home together instead of with our extended families who live where there was thicker ice  They lost power for a while.

Today was the first chance I've had to look at the garden.  While still alive, the petunias and grasses in the containers on our patio are looking pretty weak .  I tossed most of them into the compost hole and am letting the clay pots dry well before storing them.

The neatest find on the patio today was the snapdragons.  They are still going strong.  Amazing to have them doing so well in December.

Hoping to get new tour photos taken soon.
