Looking For One, Found Four

So, on my way home from work today, I made a quick stop at a garden center to buy one plant.

I went in looking for phlox.

I came out with phlox, sweet william dianthus and two stonecrop sedums.

All have been planted.  Yesterday, I planted strawberries.  It's time to plant!

I also set out my containers and retrieved some of the awesome soil from the area where I make my composting holes to fill the containers.  I now have a new composting hole.

And, we got a little shower of rain which did put some water into the rain barrels.  More in the forecast.  I'm ready for a rainy weekend!!!

No Shell

This evening, I was wondering around the garden when something unusual caught my eye.  It was sitting on a stepping stone in one of the flower beds.

By the way, notice the cool reflection of our locust tree in the bird bath.

I got a closer look.

Oh my!  It's an egg.  An egg with no shell.

The size seems to be right for a robin's egg.

What I can't show with a photo is how the egg gives.  It is squishy if you will.

I remember gathering chicken eggs on my parents' farm growing up and occasionally finding an egg like this in the nests.  No idea why it happens.  I left it out in nature after sharing the find with my wonderful husband.  He'd never seen an egg without a shell before.

Lilacs Are Ruling The Garden

The lilacs are having a perfect spring this year.  The temperatures have been good for them.  No blooms have been frozen off and they are just opening.  Today was a calm day for us and the scent was amazing as I worked in the garden.  I have one bush in the front garden and one bush in the back garden.  As is my tradition, I now have a vase of them on the kitchen table.  Love the lilacs!

The tulips are putting on a pretty good show right now too.
