The irises are blooming at Garden on Sherlock Street.  These purple ones are always first.  There was a small clump of them here when we moved in.  I have spread them around the garden and shared them with a lot of friends.  This shot is along the alley.
The tulip display ended here just over a week ago when we were hit with a deluge.  Almost four inches of rain with a lot of small soft hail in about an hour and a half.  Some flash flooding of streets in town and people dealing with stalled cars and water in basements.  Just a little water in one corner of our basement, but the plants sure took a beating outside even if the roof and vehicles were fine.  Everything is growing and has perked back up including my peas which I was worried about, but the hail didn't break any of them off just roughed them up a bit.

We're enjoying different birds as they migrate and watching some pairs build nests.  Unfortunately, a robin pair was set on building a nest on top of our electrical meter.  After three days of cleaning off their attempts, I finally read to try sparkly ribbon.  That seems to have done the trick.  There are many nice trees to nest in.  Right by our back door is not really a good location.

A plant order arrived this week and I got them all in the ground yesterday.  Looking forward to some new bright flowers.

The rain barrels are set up ready to catch some water.  Too bad they weren't ready when we had the deluge.  I had to fix a hose with a leak and get new washers for one of the overflow tubes before I could set them up.

Seeded some more carrots into the garden today and making plans to fill containers soon.

Happy Earth Day!

It is a beautiful spring day at Garden on Sherlock Street.  Planted some Russian Sage that a friend was removing from a bed -- always saving plants, put some carrot and lettuce seeds in the ground, my wonderful husband mended a garden hose that had developed a couple of serious kinks and I checked out the newest tulip to bloom.  Love this color.  Unfortunately, I only have about 25% of these tulips this year because something dug most of them up over the winter.  I was hoping a squirrel replanted them in other places, but so far no surprise tulips in our garden.  At least I still have some.  Enjoy your weekend!

A rare photo of raindrops in the garden.  We have been blessed with over two inches of rain.  Slow, soaking rain.  We can already see the countryside greening up with all the moisture.  Today, a bit of sun is showing.  We may get a little more rain next week.  My rain barrels are not set up yet as I know it could still freeze.  So happy for the rain.  Really reduced the wildfire threat for our area.  I took the tour photos today to show a well watered garden for once.  Should have them ready for tomorrow.  Happy Sunday.
