The irises are blooming at Garden on Sherlock Street.  These purple ones are always first.  There was a small clump of them here when we moved in.  I have spread them around the garden and shared them with a lot of friends.  This shot is along the alley.
The tulip display ended here just over a week ago when we were hit with a deluge.  Almost four inches of rain with a lot of small soft hail in about an hour and a half.  Some flash flooding of streets in town and people dealing with stalled cars and water in basements.  Just a little water in one corner of our basement, but the plants sure took a beating outside even if the roof and vehicles were fine.  Everything is growing and has perked back up including my peas which I was worried about, but the hail didn't break any of them off just roughed them up a bit.

We're enjoying different birds as they migrate and watching some pairs build nests.  Unfortunately, a robin pair was set on building a nest on top of our electrical meter.  After three days of cleaning off their attempts, I finally read to try sparkly ribbon.  That seems to have done the trick.  There are many nice trees to nest in.  Right by our back door is not really a good location.

A plant order arrived this week and I got them all in the ground yesterday.  Looking forward to some new bright flowers.

The rain barrels are set up ready to catch some water.  Too bad they weren't ready when we had the deluge.  I had to fix a hose with a leak and get new washers for one of the overflow tubes before I could set them up.

Seeded some more carrots into the garden today and making plans to fill containers soon.

Happy Earth Day!

  2. Aren't those iris luscious!

And wow-what a lot of rain. Sorry the hail had to come with it-at least the damage was minimal.
We set up our water tanks last week and got 1.3" rain that night. Sitting on 550 gallons of water---hooray!
Happy Earth Day to you guys

    1. Nice to have the water saved up isn't it? Rain in this week's forecast. Hoping it gives us a little window to get mulch Thu or Fri. We have those days off work to do some stuff and mulching is on the list!

  5. Beautiful irises! Glad everything survived the hail storm. I'm keeping an eye on all the new annuals I bought--still in their containers--while a storm front passes through here this weekend.
